Monday 1st March 2021

Hello Class Two,

Wow I can't believe that we are already into March! I hope that you have had a lovely, relaxing weekend and that you are ready to start another week of learning. A lot of this week's activities are to do with a very big day in our school calendar... World Book Day! We will have a special Zoom session on Thursday where I would like you to bring your favourite book to share with the class and, if you have a costume, it would be great to see some characters attending the Zoom! Below there are also some extra World Book day activities and Mrs Clements can't wait to judge the 'best dressed potato' in our special World Book Day challenge!

Some of our learning this week is going to continue about the Great Fire of London and our RE theme is still looking towards Easter time. I have also added an ELSA activity called 'Express Yourself Challenge' which looks fun.

Please remember that your new reading books are ready to collect from the school office.

I hope you have a great week and I look forward to seeing you soon!

Lots of love,

Miss Shepherdson x

 Happy New Year Class Two!

Well here we are again in another lockdown! I hope that you and your families all managed to have a lovely Christmas. I had a nice time at home with my family, even though I ate a few too many sweet treats! I am looking forward to speaking to you all soon about what you got up to.

This week’s learning is about your Christmas holiday, along with some other activities. I have prepared some learning packs to be collected from school which include maths and reading books. Please work through the Maths No Problem workbooks at the same pace as the weekly timetable so we all stay at the same level. Once complete, please mark your work with a grown up so that you can have immediate feedback to say well done for doing a great job or a little reminder for any issues or number formation problems. Mrs Clements and I would love to see your home learning, so please email photos of some maths and English work to our school email address: class2missshepherdson@stmartinsfangfoss.co.uk.

Your learning packs will be available from school on Wednesday 6th January between 1 and 2pm. Please also return your old reading books at this time too. If you can’t make this time then please let the school office know so that alternative arrangements can be made.

Hello Class of 2020!

Wow! What an unexpected year this has turned out to be! You all made super progress in your learning from September and I know that your families are just as proud of you as we are here at school. This year I am especially proud of how much hard work and fabulous learning has been happening at home and how grown-up you have all been about the change of routine.

Here is a little message from Mrs Clements who has missed you all lots:

Thank you for being a fabulous class. Good luck Year 2 as you move on to a new exciting adventure in Year 3.  I am proud of you and will miss you.  Year 1 I shall see you all in September for lots more fun learning.  Happy Summer everyone!

I hope your sports activities at home were fun last week. This week’s learning is all about summer and the end of the school year – I hope you enjoy it. I hope that you all have super duper summers and get to spend plenty of time with your families. If you ever get bored, I have added a summer booklet to help keep you entertained!

Despite the change to routine this year, you have been a wonderful class and I have enjoyed all our activities together. I am very excited to have a full class again in September and to be with the Year Ones to see how they progress next year. Year Twos, you are certainly ready for the challenge that Key Stage Two will provide – good luck for next year!

Lots of love as always,

Miss Shepherdson

Hello Class Two,

It was so lovely to see the majority of you on zoom last week and to hear about all the great work you have been doing. I have noticed that missing teeth and longer hair aren't the only changes that have happened over lockdown - as the end of term is approaching quicker than ever, and with the fabulous work I have been sent, I can see that you are all ready for your next learning adventure to begin in September!

This week's learning is all about one of my favourite days in the school year... Sports Day! My fingers are crossed that the sun will come out so you can enjoy your favourite games/sports/exercise in the outdoors!

Please keep sending photos and messages from home - I have been sharing them with the children in our class bubble and we have loved seeing how you are getting on!

Hello Class Two,

I have really enjoyed our zoom meetings over the last couple of weeks and it has been lovely to see you all happy and healthy. Lots of you have been doing amazing work and I hope this will continue now you have your Maths No Problem workbook and some more reading books with you at home.

As we may all be at slightly different stages now, I would like you to work through your maths workbook at a pace that suits you. We tend to cover 3 to 4 worksheets from the maths workbooks each week, with some extra challenges or similar problems given for support and practise, as necessary. This website is where we get a lot of our maths challenges from: https://whiterosemaths.com/resources/schemes-of-learning/primary-sols/. I have added below the challenges for the relevant topics for each year group.

This week’s learning is going to be all about our topic of Africa. Below are a selection of activities you can have a go at and some worksheets to help you. I have especially loved seeing your imaginative African designs and creations!

Dear Class Two,

Year One it was so great to see most of you last week on Zoom and I am looking forward to seeing the Year Two children this week too! I loved seeing the learning that you have been doing but the best news is that you all looked healthy and happy!

This week’s learning is going to be all about our topic of Africa. Below are a selection of activities you can have a go at and some worksheets to help you.

As well as the learning on White Rose and BBC Bitesize wesbites, below you can find some activities from our Maths No Problem workbooks. Year One you are learning about time this week, and Year Two have some more work to do on fractions.

Some key terminology that may help you Year Twos this week:

Fraction: A number that is used to represent a whole number that has been divided into equal parts.

e.g. ½ - Two is the denominator, one is the numerator.

Denominator: The number of parts that the whole is split into.

Numerator: How many equal parts you have.

If I have ½ a pizza, there are two equal parts and I have one of the equal parts. Yum!

Happy Monday Class Two,

Another week has come and gone! Mrs Clements and I have been busy in school this week to prepare for some of the children who will be coming back next week. For those children who are not coming back to school yet, I hope you all still enjoy the online learning that we will be sending to you each week. We would still love to hear from you and help to support your families and your time at home. This week we are continuing the theme of Africa, with some new learning ideas below.

Please continue to keep learning from the White Rose and BBC Bitesize website if you have not completed all of these yet. Remember there is no rush and just to do work as and when you can. The links to these websites can be found below in last week’s message. Below I have added some new worksheets for Year 1 and Year 2 from our Maths No Problem workbooks at school. Year 1 you have a review of numbers to 100 and then some revision of other topics covered. Year 2 children have a review of our last topic studied which was 3D shapes and then some revision of other topics we have learned.

Good morning Class Two,

I hope you are all staying safe, healthy and happy. This week is Mental Health Awareness Week and it has a special theme this year... kindness! This week I hope you can spend some time thinking about what you have done to help others recently. Perhaps you have been kind to a little brother or sister, kept your bedroom nice and tidy or maybe you have created something in your window to brighten up people’s days. Now we are allowed to go outside a little more, something as simple as smiling and saying hello to somebody on a walk may brighten up their day! Think about what you can do this week to make somebody happy.  I have attached some activities to do with mental health week which will hopefully help us to appreciate the things we have.

Happy birthday to Henry – I hope you have a super special day on Thursday!

This week’s home learning continues the topic all about minibeasts so please find below a selection of activities you can have a go at and some worksheets to help you. I am impressed to see that some children have been enjoying www.teachyourmonstertoread.com – keep up the good work!

Happy Monday Class Two,

I loved talking to some of you on the phone last week and our phone calls made me really happy! It was lovely to hear from your mums and dads that lots of learning is still being done from home and that you are learning some important life skills as well. I am very impressed with how much cooking, science experimenting and bike riding has been happening over the past few weeks! You and your families all seem to be making the most of the current situation and spending precious time with your families is what’s so important right now.

It was a beautiful bank holiday weekend and I hope that you all got to spend some time outdoors in the sunshine with your families to celebrate the anniversary of VE day. I enjoyed a picnic in my garden and it was lovely to hear neighbours having fun in their gardens and know that people are still managing to keep smiling throughout this strange time.

This week I have signed you all up to the ‘Teach Your Monster to Read’ website as it has some fun reading games that I thought you might enjoy. If you are playing on the website, go to :-

If you choose to play on the app, you don’t need a password but the star code is: 5662696. If you have any problems with logging on, please email school and I will do my best to help!

Hello Class Two!

This week I would like you to continue the home learning topic of plants. It was lovely to see some photos and read messages from you this week and I know you have been enjoying sharing your learning with your family members. Mrs Clements has also been busy in her garden and here are some photos of her plants and flowers.

I have been enjoying baking this week and have made some coconut biscuits which were very tasty! When setting your home learning tasks last week, I noticed how much of our food comes from plants and I have made an effort to eat more fruit and vegetables this week too. In order to stay fit and healthy at home I have been joining Joe Wicks for some home workouts – I wonder how many of you have been joining in as well.

A big happy birthday to Bobby and Flynn for yesterday – I hope you both had lovely days and got to enjoy some birthday cake!

If you have been enjoying the daily White Rose maths activities then please continue doing those. Below is another link also, to the Book Trust website which has lots of lovely stories and fun activities to share. I have created another home learning menu with a range of activities to have a go at with your families to help keep you busy. This week’s topic is continuing the theme of plants. I have attached an ELSA wellbeing calendar too, which looks very fun, creative and will hopefully be something to help you relax and keep calm at home.

Happy Monday Class Two!

I hope you are enjoying the reading books that were sent home last week and that you are sharing lots of stories with your families at home. I have really been enjoying reading and have managed to read a few books from my bookshelf so far!

I have been talking to Mrs Clements on the phone and we have both talked about how much we miss you. Mrs Clements has been enjoying reading, walking, spending time with her family and she has even been practising speaking German with some online lessons!

Jeff is enjoying looking out of my window and watching who goes by. At my house he has met a friend called Larry and they were very cheeky last week when they stole one of my chocolates! Jeff is excited to get back to school and come to see your homes when we get back to normal!

We have been away for a while now and I know that some of you have been busy celebrating your birthdays. Freddie B, Betsy, Freddie C, Lacie and Hetty - I hope you have all had super days. Happy birthday to you all (and Lois for tomorrow!)

If you have been enjoying the daily White Rose maths activities then please continue doing those.
